SAS cable connection guidelines

When connecting cables to the SAS ports in a 2U expansion rack, the SAS cable manufacturer suggests the following guidelines:

1.When connecting to the SAS port 1 on the node enclosure, the number of attached expansion racks should not exceed 10. The expansion racks in this chain should be installed below the control rack.

2.Applicable only for Storwize@ V5030 and Storwize V5030F systems:
a. When connecting to the SAS port 2 on the node enclosure, the number of attached expansion racks should not exceed 10. The expansion racks in this chain should be installed above the control rack.
b. When connecting an odd number of expansions to the control rack, make sure the number of expansion racks connected to the SAS expansion chain on port 1 of the enclosure is one more than the number connected to the SAS expansion chain on port 2 of the enclosure.

3.Do not connect cables between the ports on the left side of one enclosure and the ports on the right side of another enclosure.

4.Do not connect cables between ports within the same rack.

5.The ports connected on the node enclosure must be connected to a single port on the expansion enclosure. Use a branching cable with multiple physical connections if needed.

6.Connect cables serially between the racks; do not skip any rack.

7.The last rack in the chain should not be connected to port 2 on container 1 and port 2 on container 2.

8.Ensure that cables are installed in an orderly manner to reduce the risk of cable damage during removal or insertion of replaceable units.

Note: The guidelines mentioned above are specific to the SAS cable connections in the context of a 2U expansion rack setup for Storwize@ V5030 and Storwize V5030F systems.
